A new school year 2018. Parents attended the school to hear our Headmaster, U Soe Myint. Followed by the big day. A few tears as it’s probably their first time apart from Mum. We have 56 kids in Kinder or Grade 1. Different colour uniforms for the new students.

On my return to Mandalay while our students were still on holidays I visited the families with gifts donated by their sponsors. Knowing where they live and the heart breaking conditions under which they live is important for donors to know. All are well and very appreciative of the support they receive. I felt a bit like Father Xmas. Nige

Zarir Bamji, our Vice President visited the school and met all staff and children. His suitcases were crammed with clothing for the children that his wife Sandra collected in Sydney. He took them to the Mandalay Zoo for a fun day for all the children. The school is progressing well and the children and parents are very happy. Thanks Zarir for making the trip and thanks to our sponsors for your support.

Students are celebrating finishing their first school year of Kindergarten with ice creams and balloons. Thirty six students finished the full year and will commence the new school year in June 1. To start Year 1 students must be 6 years old. Some of our students will have to repeat the year but this is a good thing as they will gain a much better grounding in their own language and English. As well they will receive a diverse informal environment compared to Year 1.

Our students received the vaccination to protect them against Japanese Brain Fever, a form of Encephalitis virus that is spread by mosquitoes. This disease can cause inflammation of the brain leading to impaired brain development and seizures. Myanmar has the highest infant mortality in Asia and this is the first of a number of vaccinations that we will provide to our students and staff this year. These will include Measles, Polio, Tetanus, Diphtheria and Hepatitis B.

Our Kindergarten has 2 qualified teachers, a Head Master and 42 students. All uniforms, learning materials, lunches and transport to and from school is free.

Light of Education Primary School May 24 2017
We picked up the mothers and their children in our school bus to attend our Open day. Some eighty guests attended including the Township Administrator.

As is customary all were served ice cream and cakes served in our kindergarten classroom.

Our Head Master U Soe Myint and I welcomed and informed families of our plans and future.

The school is being built on a former Roller Skating Business so it is completely sealed with cement and has a front office and toilets.
